New imaging techniques
To examine the patient and discover the details and extent of vision changes, researchers used new techniques such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) as well as adaptive optics (AO).
OCT, developed in the ’90s and first used to view the retinas of live animals, allows clinicians to see a cross-section of the retina. Today, this technology is used to diagnose many conditions including diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
